SOCIETY NOTES

By Kay Kastel

Summer has finally arrived and all recreation departments have their programs well underway. Some of the districts are trying new and exciting things this season. We would like to hear about them. I would like to urge all of you to submit articles to the magazine.

Any new programs, old programs with a different twist, or exciting ideas are all newsworthy information. Develop your story with 500-1,000 words and submit with several pictures to the Society office.

It is important for all departments to share their wealth of ideas and experiences with others in the state. Illinois is number one so let's hear about it.

The IPRS conference committee has a stimulating program planned for the annual conference November 15-18. Programs will appeal to commissioners, administrators, staff, therapeutic personnel, and students.

More details will be available in the next issue. Plan now to attend!

The Great Lakes Region has the potential of being the strongest in the NRPA ranks. Illinois could be one of the forces which helps guide the national organization to better service to its members. We need your support for our profession through NRPA.

IPRS plans to involve more of the minorities working within our state. The Minority Affairs Committee is doing research on the number of minorities working in the field in Illinois. A meeting will take place early this fall to discuss the potential of minorities in the Society. A session at the annual conference is also planned.

Our membership has a potential of reaching the 2,000 mark for 1973-74. We need the cooperation of all current members to make this possible.

Two more of our professional members have become certified: Steve Gonzales, Champaign (Supervisor) and Jill Bartholomew, Glencoe (Supervisor).

All members will be receiving a ballot for election of officers for the coming year. I urge all of you to vote. If you want to be heard voice your opinions and participate in the activities of the Society. Those who do are the real professional.

Congratulations are in order for Jerry Handlon, Naperville, and the Ways and Means committee for a fun night of gambling at Las Vegas night.

Have you heard about any special awards to districts or people?? Let me know. See you next issue.
