The mile-long ride on the Sky Cruise crosses over Quincy Bay and the Mississippi River.

QUINSIPPI ISLAND

ByKen Kramer
Director-Secretary
Quincy Park District

The Quincy Park District has developed one of the finest recreational areas in the Midwest on Quinsippi Island, which was started in 1966.

You can enjoy more than a mile-long ride on our Sky Cruise over Quincy Bay and the Mississippi River. You will get a breathtaking view of Illinois, Missouri, Quincy and the mighty Mississippi River.

Quinsippi Island is a 130-acre island surrounded by the Mississippi River, Quincy Bay and Broad Lake. Although, you as a first time visitor will not realize this, in a period of only seven years, many areas have been filled and raised above flood level.

These areas are where our present attractions are located. Imagine, if you will, that the picnic area, "Adams Landing" Log Cabin Village, the Marina road and parking lot, the Caboose, and most impressive of all, the main depot, round house, souvenir shop, auto museum, ferris wheel, carousel and the entire parking lot locations were — just a short time ago — a swamp, flooded and littered with dead trees, junk and vines.

We welcome you and hope you understand that, although primitive, progress is steadily advancing and that each year many new attractions and facilities will be added. This will be our first full year for our Indian Museum which houses Indian artifacts, mineral and natural history collections. Come see — Help Quinsippi Island grow.

One of the most popular events is a ride on the narrow gauge railroad,
which passes by many of fhe attractions on fhe Quinsippi Island.
