SOCIETY NOTES

By Kay Kastel

KAY KASTEL
On behalf of the Illinois Park and Recreation Society, I would like to wish all of you the very best for a happy and prosperous New Year.

Special thanks are in order for all who worked to make the 1973 Conference one of the most successful. A special note of appreciation goes to Joe Doud, Northbrook, Conference Chairman, and his staff; to Dave Markworth, Des Plaines, IPRS Program Chairman; and to the Conference Planning Committee.

Next year's committee has already started work on the St. Louis Conference under the chairmanship of Jack Claes, Elk Grove. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

The energy crisis is facing us all. We should begin to think about how it will affect us. NRPA Great Lakes District Council is planning a special Seminar on the Energy Crisis with emphasis on the ramifications for parks and recreation. All administrators from the 8 state region are urged to attend on January 29-30 at the O'Hare Inn, Rosemont, Illinois.

Many thanks to John Hlade, Waukegan Park District, for compiling the 1973 IPRS Historical Report. Copies are available upon request from the IPRS office.

In order to improve communications, copies of IPRS minutes will be sent to about 100 departments throughout the state. We asked that they be circulated to interested staff members. IPRS Board meetings are open to all members. Dates can be obtained by calling the office.

On IPRS newsletter will be coming out sometime during January with the more recent happenings of the Society.

See you next issue.

IAPD and IPRS believe that the democratic process functions best through frank and open discussion. Material published in this magazine, therefore often presents divergent and controversial points of view which do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the two sponsoring organizations.
