SOCIETY NOTES

By Kay Kastel

KAY KASTEL

This issue of Illinois Parks and Recreation marks my one year anniversary as editor. Hope you have enjoyed reading your publication as much as I have compiling the information.

However, in order to maintain and improve the quality of the magazine, I need input from both the professionals and commissioners. I urge all of you to write articles of concern. With the challenges of the energy crisis, gas and chemical shortages, funding, and society in general, the topics are endless.

Articles should be no longer than four typed, double-spaced pages—no more than 1,000 words. Black and white or color photos should accompany all articles.

The IPRS Workshop Committee has been hard at work planning good programs for continuing your professional education. Mark April 9, 10, and 11 on your calendar early. Registration forms will be sent to all members during March.

The Ways and Means Committee has worked hard to arrange a quality tour for all IPRS members and guests to the NRPA Congress in Denver this fall. We have a limited block of rooms at your disposal in one of the conference headquarter hotels. However reservations must be in by early June. Plan ahead so you may take advantage of this offer. More information will be sent to all members.

Special apologies go to Rich Sedowski, Program Coordinator, Arlington Heights Park District, for omission of his name as author of last month's "Who is Stranger Danger?" Thanks, Rich, for the article—we need more articles describing new, innovative programs.

Comments, questions, and letters to the editor are always welcome. Remember this is your magazine—let's hear from you. See you next issue!

IAPD and IPRS believe that the democratic process functions best through frank and open discussion. Material published in this magazine, therefore often presents divergent and controversial points of view which do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the two sponsoring organizations.
