"Mr. Park District" left Elmhurst and the parks for which he has worked for 42 years. Wilbert C. Schmidt — or Smitty to thousands of Elmhurst Park District residents, retired at the end of October, as the Park District's Superintendent.

He was honored with a retirement dinner at the River Forest Country Club. Smitty's retirement plans include a move to a small town in Wisconsin near the Dells, where he plans to fish, hunt, and do odd jobs around the house, without being bound by time schedules!

Manager of the Franklin Park Park District's Ice Arena, which is currently under construction,is William R. Carlson, who has been appointed to the position starting December 3rd.

He is a 1969 graduate of the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse with a B.S. degree in Recreation and Park Administration in 1970 from Indiana University at Bloomington.

He comes to Franklin Park from the City of Evanston Recreation Department where he served as Director of the Lighted School Programs and Coordinator of Special Services Recreation Program.

Jerry Burke, Superintendent of Sports for the Peoria Park District, announces the appointment of three new staff members. Jerry Brady was named Coordinator of Aquatics and Winter Sports. James Revis holds the combined position of Ice Center Manager and Summer Sports Supervisor. Diane Modglin was named as Outdoor Ice Center and Swimming Pool Manager.

Jerry Brady has been serving as manager of Central Park Pool for the past two years. A native Peorian, Brady attended Spalding Institute and graduated from Bradley University with a major in business administration and a minor in physical education. While he was a Bradley student, he directed the boys' program at the Guardian Angel Home. He also worked as a lifeguard and later manager of Proctor Swimming Pool.

Mrs. Claire Wilson was appointed to the position of Assistant Athletic Director with Skokie Park District, Skokie, Illinois in October. Mrs. Wilson received her Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from the University of Massachusetts in June. She has had various experiences with teaching girls physical education and swimming programs. She has also been an Instructor of Women's gymnastics and Women's fitness programs.

Mrs. Bernie Young joined the staff of Skokie Park District, in October. Mrs. Young has assumed the position of Center Director for Devonshire Center. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Recreation from Eastern Illinois University in 1971. Since then she was director of recreation and programs for the Y.W.C.A. in Danville, Illinois. She has also worked with the Girl Scouts of Chicago.

James Revis also, a native Peorian, earned a degree in recreation at Western Illinois University at Macomb. He has worked as a summer playground supervisor for the Park District since 1969. After graduating from Western, he served as coordinator for the Association for Retarded Children in Iroquois County. He was also director for the organization of the Kennedy Foundation Special Olympics in Iroquois County. Revis will manage the Logan Ice Center during the winter months and serve as supervisor of sports in the summer.

Diane Modglin will be in charge of the Peoria Park District outdoor ice center and swimming pool in Lakeview Park. Miss Modglin graduated from Illinois State University in 1973 with a degree in physical education. She worked as a lifeguard and cashier at the Lakeview Pool and also a playground supervisor while she was a student.

Timothy D. Schroeder has been appointed Director of Parks and Recreation of the Alsip Park District. Schroeder started in Alsip in September.

Schroeder received a B.S. from Southern Illinois University in 1971 and an M.S. from the same institution in 1973. He was formerly on the staff of the Belleville, Illinois Recreation Department.

Kenneth S. Kutska, who has been employed with the Elmhurst Park District for two years, has been named Assistant Superintendent of Parks.

Kutska has been a member of the landscape crew formed to carry out 1971 referendum projects, was landscape crew supervisor, and construction supervisor on three bond issue contracts prior to his appointment as Ass't Supt. He is a graduate of Western Illinois University, where he majored in parks and recreation administration.

Frederick C. Thompson has been named director of recreation and parks for the City of Belleville, Illinois. He previously served as a reresearch assistant within the Leisure Behavior Research Laboratory, Department of Recreation and Park Administration, at the University of Illinois. Thompson was awarded a M.S. degree from the University of Illinois in August, 1973 and holds a B.S. degree from Western Illinois University.

William S. Semple has been named Sunerintendent of Parks of the Elmhurst Park District, succeeding Wil-bert C. Schmidt, who retired in October.

Semple has worked with the Park District since 1955, when he was a basket-room attendant at the Park District pool. After the gamut of being life-guard and part-time maintenance worker, he was made a foreman in 1961. He attended Elmhurst College in the evening and finished his formal education at Southern Illinois University, with a BS degree in parks and recreation.

Robert L. Darr, former sports and leagues supervisor, has accepted the position of superintendent of recreation within the Belleville, Illinois, Recreation and Parks Department. He holds a degree of physical education from Southern Illinois University (Edwardsville Campus).

Alan Domer, Director of Parks and Recreation in Racine, Wisconsin will move up to the President's chair for the Wisconsin Park and Recreation Association in 1974.

A native of Illinois, Domer assumed the Director's position in Racine eight years ago. He worked in Illinois for sixteen years as Director of Parks and Recreation for various departments. During this time he served as a member of the Executive Board of the Illinois Recreation Society, served as President of the Illinois Park and Recreation Society.

Jody Uhruh has been named as Recreation Supervisor at the Bartlett Park District, Bartlett, Illinois. She is in charge of planning and supervising activities and programs for all age levels.

Miss Uhruh is a graduate of Triton College in River Forest, Illinois. She received an Associate Degree in Recreation. Before coming to Bartlett Miss Uhruh was employed by the Dundee Township Park District.

Lyndall Maxwell has been named Director of Patient Activities at Oak Forest Hospital. Oak Forest is under the supervision of the Health and Hospitals Governing Commission of Cook County.

The hospital has approximately 1,800 patients. In her role as Director of Patient Activities, she will coordinate the activities in Chaplaincy, Recreation, Library, Activity Therapy and Volunteers.

Ms. Maxwell, who is a member of Illinois Therapeutic Recreation Society, was previously with the American Red Cross, Tinley Park Mental Health Center and Moraine Valley Community College. She also publishes a monthly newsletter for nursing home activity directors.

Ms. Maxwell, a native of Houston, Texas, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Texas and a Master of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Illinois.

Marion Porento, a 1973 graduate of Western Illinois University in Macomb is the new Recreation Supervisor for the Franklin Park Park District, Franklin Park, Ill. She holds a B.S. degree in Recreation, did her field work in Elmhurst, and has recently been working part-time as a Recreation Leader at the Elmhurst Park District.
