Mrs. Emily Palmer Gresham, supervisor of Youth Programs and Special Events for the Evanston Recreation Department, was recently named "Great Gal" of the month by Radio Station WJPC, Chicago. This recognition came to Ms. Gresham because of her recent appointment as directress of the Lighted School program in Evanston. This is the first time a Black woman has been selected to direct the program.

Ms. Gresham has been with the Evanston City government for about 13 years. She has also worked as a counselor at Evanston Township High School in special education, with socially maladjusted girls, and has recently completed her term as a member of the Evanston Human Relations Commission.

Joseph Schultz has been appointed as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the Westmont Park District, Westmont, Illinois. Formerly the Program Supervisor for the Springfield Park District and Age-Group Swimming Coach, Mr. Schultz holds a B.S. in Community Recreation from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and a M.A. in Public Administration from Sangamon State University, Springfield.

Mr. Schultz was previously employed by the Dept. of Corrections as Activity Therapist in the Psychiatric Division, Menard Prison, Menard, Ill.

Reed C. Klein has been appointed Assistant Director of Recreation for the Downers Grove Park District. He has received his B.A. degree in physical education, with a minor in business, from Wortburg College. Currently he is working on his M.S. degree in recreation administration at George Williams College. He was formerly on the staff of the Fox River Valley Pleasure Drive Park District in Aurora.

Julie R. Lengfelder has been selected for the position of Leisure Activities Coordinator with the Belleville Recreation and Parks Department. Lengfelder acquired first-hand knowledge of adventure playground operation while in Edenburgh, Scotland during Spring 1973 through the American Universities International Program in Leisure Sciences. She will have completed undergraduate studies in Recreation and Park Administration at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana Campus in May 1974 and graduates within the Program Specialist Option. Lengfelder was chosen to develop and head a newly created leisure delivery systems section which will provide an opportunity for leisure behavior research examining both children and adults.

James C. Heffernan, general foreman in the landscape maintenance section of the Chicago Park District, has been elected president of the Midwest Institute of Park Executives.

A park district employee for 27 years, Heffernan is assigned to the Humboldt district.
