SOCIETY NOTES

By Kay Kastel Forest

All IPRS members are urged to submit nominations for the IPRS award categories. As of June 30th the Recognitions Committee had received only a few nominations. Surely there are more than 3 people who deserve IPRS awards.

The Fellow Award has not been given for several years due to the lack of nominations. Is there not one professional in this state who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of parks and recreation? The process for submitting nominations is simple. See page 27 for details.

The results of the recent IPRS election for President-elect have been tabulated. The Election Committee announced that Chuck Paxton, Zion Park District, is the new President-elect. He will serve out his term and take office as President in November at the conference.

Don't forget about the next IPRS Lecture & Technical Assistance Series scheduled for September 19th, at the University of Illinois, Champaign. The topic is "Today's Problems" and will include sessions on survey research, environment, urban planning, and people. Eric Hoffer is the keynote speaker. Information and special registration forms will be sent to all IPRS members. Remember that ADVANCED REGISTRATION IS ESSENTIAL.

Congratulations are in order for the Workshop Committee under the chairmanship of Jim Talley for their work in providing IPRS with quality continuing education.

The Salary Survey which is compiled every two years will be sent to departments this summer. In order to get a representative survey we need the coopration of all professionals in gathering this information. The results are usually made available through the magazine.

The Personnel Committee will offer the opportunity for professionals to take the voluntary registration exams for supervisor and administrator on July 30 and September 10. (See page 21). Anyone interested should contact the IPRS office for an application.

Task Force Committee has met to analyze the questionnaire data and make recommendations for the future of IPRS. The report will be circulated at the conference and all members will be given the opportunity to react to the recommendations. A special session on the Task Force report will be held. Plan to attend and respond.

IAPD and IPRS believe that the democratic process functions best through frank and open discussion. Material published in this magazine, therefore often presents divergent and controversial points of view which do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the two sponsoring organizations.
