MORE ON ARBOR DAY

From the Pekin Park District

This 25' Colorado Blue Spruce was donated by Roy Wiraker.
Last Year in preparation for Arbor Day the Pekin Park District prepared a recommended donation tree list which was sent, with a cover letter, to all area social and fraternal clubs and organizations.

The local newspapers and radio stations were asked to release the prepared information to the general public.

The response was gratifying. A 25 foot Colorado Blue Spruce worth $1,200 was the first donation and it served as an excellent motivation for the other donations to follow. By Arbor Day, 27 beautiful tree specimens had been donated to the Park District by local clubs, organizations, and private citizens.

From the Chicago Park District

In 1974 the Chicago Park District gave away 1500 seedling Silver Maple and Green Ash trees as part of its annual observance of Arbor Day.

The ceremonial program included remarks by Mayor Richard J. Daley and Patrick L. O'Malley, President of the park district, entertainment by children from various parks, and a choral program by the Chicago Fire Department Glee Club.

The Chicago Park District presents the Arbor Day ceremony every April as an informal prelude to its spring and summer outdoor recreation program.

From the Morton Park District

Joyce Sullivan of the Morion Junior Woman's Club supports the tree which Morton Park District board member Jim Carius is planting in honor of Arbor Day. The club donated six trees similar to this crab apple to the Park District last year for use as a bird sanctuary at one of the parks.
