SOCIETY NOTES

By Kay Kastel Forest

Congratulations are in order for the Suburban Park and Recreation Association for their planning and coordination of the Park and Recreation Exposition at Woodfield Shopping Center. The expo was a conglomeration of leisure activities, exhibits, and talent groups offered by the park and recreation agencies in the Chicago area. It gave the general public a greater awareness of the leisure service field. A full article will appear in a later magazine.

Several IPRS members were honored at the NRPA Congress in Dallas. Dr. Joe Bannon was selected for the Fellow Award, the highest professional award offered by the American Park and Recreation Society. The former president of the Illinois Student Branch, John Bruns, was selected as the Outstanding Park and Recreation Student of the year. Congratulations are in order for both Joe and John.

The Thursday evening mixer at the Illinois Conference this year features a band which plays the hits of the fifties and sixties. This activity was made possible by the generous contribution of the Suburban Park and Recreation Association, the Midwest Institute of Park Executives, and the North Shore Round Table. We sincerely thank these groups of professionals for their support.

The Task Force Report will be presented to the membership at the conference at the IPRS Annual meeting on Friday, November 21 at 10:15 A.M. The new officers will also be installed at this time. It is important for you, as a member, to keep abreast of the current activities of your organization. Some of the task force proposals may be controversial and we need input from ALL the members.

The 1976 State Sports and Activities tournament schedule will be available at the conference. We hope that all members and districts support the tournaments. In addition to giving recognition to the different agency teams, the tournament contributes substantially to the income of IPRS.

If you have not sent in your dues for 1976, please do so. On January 1, 1976 all those who have not renewed will be deleted from the membership rolls.

See you next month!
