LETTER TO THE EDITOR Dear Editor, We are a small park district with an assessed valuation of $4,500,000 and no professional staff. We look for ideas anyplace we can find them and, I think, the primary source for park and recreation ideas should come from a park and recreation magazine such as yours. I read almost every article looking for ideas we can use. I would like to see a little more related to smaller park districts (realizing that most of the park districts are larger and therefore most of your articles relate to them). Listed below are some of our areas of interest. Pictures help a lot also.
a. types of trees to plant; types of campaigns to obtain donated trees; types of publicity associated with trees;
The legislative notes are always of interest and definitely should be retained. This is our only contact with what is happening in the legislature. We also like the list of commercial advertisers showing the services available. Our only regret is that more downstate companies do not advertise. Possibly some of the vendors at the State convention could be enticed to become associate members and list their services. We made several contacts with vendors at your convention in St. Louis which resulted in several orders. I could ramble on and on, however, it all leads to the same thing. We use the magazine to get ideas and to know what's going on. We would like to see parks from various parts of the state featured from time to time. Sincerely yours, Roger A. Roley, President Board of Commissioners New Athens Park District _____________________________________ Dear Editor, May I for one, extend sincere appreciation to the many professional colleagues in the Chicago Metropolitan Area for the recent Park and Recreation EXPO held at Woodfield Mall September 12, 13 and 14. Sponsored by the Suburban Park and Recreation Association, the EXPO promoted no single individual agency but rather highlighted the field of leisure in total as a Park District governmental function. The thousands who attended benefited from the activities of the EXPO and left with a greater awareness of the role of Park and Recreation agencies in their own area. The months of planning and hours of volunteer time and effort culminated in a successful boost to our profession as well. As a beneficiary of that achievement, I say thanks! Sincerely, David B. Colmar, Director Homewood-Flossmoor Park & Recreation Illinois Parks and Recreation 27 November/December, 1975 |
