Voter information

THE STATE Board of Elections ad opted Regulation 1976-6 to bring Illinois into conformity with the Federal Voting Rights Act, which provides that no citizen shall be deprived of the right to vote for president because of any requirements of registration.

This means that if you are registered in Illinois but have changed precincts or moved out of state during the 28-day period when registration is closed, you may make a special application in person or by mail to the office of your former county clerk or board of election commissioners to obtain a presidential ballot. Deadline for application by mail is October 28; deadline for application in person is November 1. If you are currently residing in Illinois but do not intend to regularly register, you may make a special application for absentee registration with your county clerk or board of election commissioners which shall also serve as an application for an absentee ballot to vote for president and vice president only. Deadline for this application is October 4. The ballot must be cast in person or by mail before November 1.
