Concurrence to Senate Amendment 1 to H.B. 1535, amendment would have banned nuclear waste importation from states that do not accept Illinois nuclear wastes. Failed to win House concurrence 77-71 June 29 after the Senate amended it 34-14 on June 25.

S.B. 80, extends voting hours until 7 p.m. (now end at 6 p.m.). Passed the House 105-44 June 25, after the Senate approved it 52-4 May 24.

S.B. 176, requires all able-bodied recipients of general assistance to work at public service jobs or lose their benefits. Passed the House 152-9 June 14 after the Senate passed it 44-0 May 14.

S.B. 250, revises the state pension code to increase state contribution requirements for state employees, judges and teachers. Passed the House 119-13 June 20 and the Senate 52-0 May 24.

S.B. 316, comprehensive nursing home act reform, including broad state regulatory powers and residents' rights section. Passed the House 149-5 June 15 and the Senate 51-0 May 14.

S.B. 659, limits hazardous wastes disposal sites away from cities, towns, drinking water and old mines. Passed the House 136-14 June 25 after the Senate passed it 40-9 May 25.

S.B. 788, requires disclosure of ownership of Illinois agricultural land by foreigners. Passed the House 140-19 June 20 and the Senate 36-10 May 21.

S.B. 807, increases the cost-of-living escalator in pension systems of retired judges and lawmakers from 2 percent to 3 percent a year. Passed the House 94-67 June 20 after it passed the Senate 41-7 May 21. Conference committee reports were adopted 30-24 in the Senate and 89-54 in the House.

S.B. 905, permits electronic bank fund transfers, a form of branch banking. Passed the House 133-22 June 26 after the Senate passed it 47-4 May 25.

S.B. 1277, requires school children in elementary grades to recite the "Pledge of Allegiance." Passed the House 125-30 June 25 and the Senate 45-4 May 22.

S.B. 1331, restricts unemployment compensation eligibility. Passed the House 100-71 June 27 and the Senate 50-1 May 25.


Senate
H.B. 21, raises the drinking age for beer and wine to 21 from 19. The Senate adopted the bill 35-20 June 27, after the House passed it 98-64 April 4.

H.B. 65, would have banned compulsory retirement based solely on age. The Senate rejected the bill 19-32 June 27, although it passed the House 129-7 May 25.

H.B. 183, bans indiscriminate searches and seizures in news rooms or reporters' homes. Passed the Senate 41-14 June 20 after the House passed it 123-17 March 22.

H.B. 197, would have indexed the standard exemption on the state income tax to tie it to the rate of inflation. The Senate rejected the bill 25-1 June 27, although the House passed it 151-16 May 23.

H.B. 739, denies the issuance of Illinois drivers licenses to illegal aliens. Passed the Senate 37-15 June 20 after the House had adopted it 96-70 May 1.

H.B. 2569, would replace the corporate personal property tax with corporate income tax. The Senate passed it 32-24 June 27 after the House had passed it 90-73 May 23.

S.B. 262, would have banned storage of out of state nuclear wastes. Passed the Senate 43-4 May 14, but it died in the House Energy Committee June 13. Later, the same provisions were amended to H.B. 1535 by the Senate, but the House did not concur.

S.B. 1100, new formula for determining judges' retirement pay: based upon final seven-month salary average. Senate passed it 39-4 May 25; the House sent it to interim study June 27.

S.B. 1277, "Pledge of Allegiance"(see above).

S.J.R. 31, supports congressional trimming of the U.S. military budget. Failed to be adopted by the Senate 20-28 June 24.
