MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY

All members should be receiving the annual membership directory in early April. The Publications Committee under the Chairmanship of Ray Williams, Lincolnwood, has worked hard to provide a valuable tool for your use. The committee spent hours verifying agency names, addresses and phone numbers. The directory lists only paid members (excluding students) as of February 15, 1981.

We wish to thank the advertisers and hope that you too will express your appreciation for making the printing of this publication possible. The directory is available to members and advertisers only. We ask that you do not loan the directory to anyone for a commercial venture.

OFFICE OPERATIONS

In January, the IPRA Board approved maternity leave for the Executive Director. Although some responsibilities will still be carried out by the executive at home, the officers, board, committees and current office staff will pick up the slack for three months. We hope that members will be understanding during this time period.

SALARY SURVEY

The IPRA office has received numerous calls regarding the salary survey. Traditionally we have conducted one every two years, the last one being in 1978. This year we will be computerizing salary information combining it with the Facility Information Retrieval System (FIRS) to provide more comprehensive data to agencies and professionals.

We have a team of professionals working on the survey instrument. After this is complete, a computer program will be written, data collected and entered into the system. Since this will be a project of several months, the committee will not be collecting data until the summer with results expected by the 1981 state conference. Once this program is designed, IPRA will be able to provide accurate salary information on a yearly basis.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

We must constantly devise ways of informing the general public that leisure is important to their everyday lives. Both the IPRA and the Joint Public Awareness Committees have been working hard to accomplish this task.

I'm sure you have heard of "Please for Trees". This is a joint project of IPRA, IAPD and the Illinois Park and Recreation Foundation. The purpose is for individual communities to raise funds to plant trees in their parks. This will be done by runners, walkers, bikers, etc., obtaining pledges for the amount of laps they cover in the Arbor Day Jog-a-thon.

We hope your agency is participating. If not, there still might be time. Contact Ken Kutska immediately at the Wheaton Park District, 312/665-4710 for further details. "Please for Trees" is an excellent PR tool for your agency. Citizens are able to help plant trees by participating in a recreational activity. Lets all get behind this movement and lend our support.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Don't forget the IPRA mid-year Educational Happening which will be held April 5-7 in Springfield. A wide variety of management seminars, educational sessions and social events are planned. This event is organized by the sections and the Continuing Education Committee under the chairmanship of Ed Clift, Des Plaines. Congratulations are in order for Ed and his hard working committee.

Each of the sections are also busy planning special interest workshops for their members. To name just a few of the upcoming events: Professional Development School on Personnel (Administration and Finance); Chicago Metro, Northern and Southern TR Workshops (Therapeutic); Horticulture Seminar and Park Management Institute (Parks and Natural Resources); Operations Manuals (Special Facilities); Sports Symposium (Recreation Programming).

We hope members will take advantage of these opportunities.
