It's that time of year again when IPRA's Nominating Committee selects those members to run for the Association Board of Directors. The committee, chaired by past president Jerry Oakes, worked hard to obtain a good cross representation of the state.

Because of two year terms, only a portion of the Board of Directors comes up for election.

Meet the candidates:

President-Elect

•Jerry Handlon, Schaumberg Park District
•Dave Phillips, Wheeling Park District

Secretary

•Jan Mersmann, Northbrook Park District
•Connie Skibbe, Park District of Highland Park

Central Region

•Michael Manley, Morton Park District
•Terry Schwartz, Champaign Park District

Metro Region

•Karen Correll, Naperville Park District
•Emil Winogard, Maine Niles Assn. of Special Recreation

Associate Board Member

•Jan Linduska, Hanover Park Park District
•Sue Furey, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association

All voting members will receive more information when the election materials are mailed later this month. This is your chance to have input into the operation of IPRA.

The association can only be as good as the members who support it. Please make your voice be heard by returning your ballot.

Once again IPRA members will run from Chicago to Springfield to help kick off the State Fair. An added attraction this year will be a run from Southern Illinois to Springfield. Last year our members carried the scissors which Governor Thompson used to cut the ribbon to open the State Fair.

This year half the scissors will be carried from the Civic Center in Chicago and half from Belleville, joining together on opening day. The purpose of this run is to gain public awareness for parks and recreation throughout the state.

To date, the run is being cosponsored by IPRA and Anheuser Busch Natural Light, who will donate financing for the run. Another sponsor has been approached but has not yet made a commitment.

Many volunteer hours have gone into the preparation for the run. At least 25 IPRA members representing the park and recreation field will "pound" the pavement in 10 mile stretches from the north and from the south. "Non-running" members will drive support vehicles and be involved in public relation activities along the route. Special thanks are in order for Tom Connolly, this year's chairman of the run, and for all runners who will literally give IPRA 52,800 feet for P.B.

Once again, as a member service IPRA offers a complete tour to the NRPA Congress held this year in Minnesota October 25-29. The October 24-29 (Sat. - Thurs.) tour package includes round trip airfare from O'Hare or Midway airports, five (5) nights lodging (including taxes), round trip transfers to and from hotel, baggage handling, and tour representative. There are two hotel choices, and single and
