"Recognition" SAYS THANKS

There is at least one lay group or individual who deserves your recognition and at least two fellow professionals who deserve your acknowledgement for outstanding service to our field. Let their achievements be noticed by an appreciative "thank you".

The Awards and Recognition Committee of the Illinois Park and Recreation Association is ready to serve you. The process of nomination is simple only requiring a small amount of time.

The available awards are as follows:

"FELLOW AWARD" candidates must hold membership in the Illinois Park and Recreation Association except those candidates who are retired from professional work may be exempt from this requirement. Candidates must have served at least ten (10) years as a full-time professional in the field of Parks and/or Recreation, and must have contributed to the advancement of the field.

"PROFESSIONAL CITATION AWARDS" candidates must hold membership in the Illinois Park and Recreation Association and must have served at least five years as a full-time professional in the field of parks and/or recreation. They must have indicated by performance, recognizable achievements in the advancement of the park and recreation field within their community, but not necessarily having been exceptionally active in the I.P.R.A.

"SPECIAL CITATION AWARDS" presented to lay individuals who have made by performance, either an outstanding contribution to the field of Parks and/or Recreation, or demonstrated an unselfish dedication in promoting parks and recreation within the community.

"COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS" presented to lay groups who have displayed an unselfish dedication in furthering park and recreation services in their own community. Project, or projects, may not necessarily be a Park District sponsored activity.

"TESTIMONIAL AWARDS" presented to "professional" and "non-professional" individuals in the field of parks and/or recreation who have retired or are about to retire within one year. Candidates must be nominated by a member of I.P.R.A. and must have displayed by performance an outstanding contribution to the field of parks and/or recreation. Candidates do not have to be, but could be members of I.P.R.A.

The "Fellow Award" and "Professional Citation Awards" are presented at the annual State Conference, while the "Community Service Awards" and "Special Citation Awards" are given throughout the year.

Individuals desiring to nominate candidates for any or all of the award categories must submit their nominations in writing, not to be more than two double-space typewritten pages. The award category, name of the nominee, professional background, accomplishments, achievements, and contributions should be addressed in the nomination.

DEADLINE for entries of Fellow and Professional Citation Awards is September 1, 1981.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR THERAPEUTIC RECREATION STUDENTS

Therapeutic recreation students needing financial aid may apply for the Annual ITRS scholarships which will be awarded at the 1981 IPRA State Conference in November. Two $400 awards will be given:

The Stephen R. Keay Scholarship (open to all therapeutic students) and the Charles Field Memorial Scholarship designed for ethnic minorities.

Jr. college and four-year college students may apply. Eligibility will be judged on academic performance, job or volunteer performance, and need for assistance.

ITRS application forms with accompanying letters of reference must be received by August 22, 1981. The forms are available in the recreation or therapeutic recreation departments in jr. colleges or universities throughout the state. They may also be obtained from the ITRS Committee Chairperson, John McGovern, WSSRA, 1 Village Hall Plaza, Oak Park, IL 60302, 312/383-8910.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOOL

An annual intensive week-long Professional Development School will be offered for the first time September 13-18 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Sponsored by the Administration and Finance Section of IPRA, the first curriculum will cover Use of Human Resources with a focus on Staff Development in Contemporary Organizations and the Contemporary Wage and Salary Program. The 1981 in-depth program, conducted by U. of I's Office of Recreation and Park Resources is specifically designed for executives, executive assistants, supervisory personnel and those responsible for compensation of employees and/or their development.

Future programs will zero in on other management and mid-management problems, techniques, and procedues, with expert interdisciplinary faculty drawn from on and off campus. Though this intense coverage of topics, not possible at conventions, conferences and seminars, participants will learn to upgrade and maintain a higher level of professional practice.

Hotel accommodations have been reserved at the Illini Union where all classes take place. The $360 full registration fee includes room, tuition, all educational materials, health services, library, recreation facilities and meals (except Wednesday evening). The $225 partial registration fee—without room reservation—includes the entire program, the opening banquet, and the closing luncheon.
