The IAPR-IAPD Joint Editorial Board recently recommended retention of Len Cleary Jr. as editor for the coming year. In addition, Ms. Mary Johnson was tentatively retained as part-time advertising representative.

In other action the Board selected themes for the November/December issue (Winter Programming) and January/February (Legal Aspects of Recreation Service). The readership is invited to contribute materials for these issues consistent with the guidelines published in the March/April (1981) issue of the magazine.

The Joint Editorial Board also chose to continue the practice begun last year of recognizing outstanding articles from each year. A sub-committee has been appointed to review the appropriate issues and select the best articles in each of twelve categories. The results of the process will be published later this year.

There has been considerable discussion concerning the best way of meeting the needs of the numerous and diverse constituencies as they relate to the publication and its operation. Questions involving financial viability, content, advertising, format, space allocation, and competing priorities are of ongoing concern. A readership survey is under consideration as one means of obtaining definitive information from the magazine's consumers.

Ms. Beth Jones of the Glencoe Park and Recreation District has replaced Ms. Debbie Smith of the Highland Park Youth Commission as northern area editorial staff representative for the magazine. Ms. Smith recently moved to Arizona with her new husband and her dependable and high quality efforts on behalf of the publication will be missed. At the same time, we welcome Ms. Jones who is already diligently involved in her new assignment.
