30 Sugar Grove (Kane) — Sugar Grove Annual Corn Boil, Snow Park. Sweet corn cooked by old time steam engine. Games, crafts and food.

3-7 Wilmington (Will) — Annual Catfish Days Celebration, Business District and Both Shopping Areas. Annual homecoming event featuring a flea market, parade, carnival, etc.

11-21 Springfield (Sangamon) — Illinois State Fair. State Fairgrounds. All day and evening.

11-14 Sycamore (DeKalb) — Steam Show & Threshing Bee, Taylor Marshall Farm, Plank Road.

12-14 Mendota (LaSalle) — National Sweet Corn Festival. Downtown streets. Over 20 tons of hot, buttered Del Monte Sweet Corn on Sunday only.

21-28 Mt.Vernon (Jefferson)— 12th Annual Sweetcorn-Watermelon Festival. A week filled with activities and games with a Saturday parade and free watermelon and sweetcorn.

28 Arlington Heights (Cook) — The Budweiser Million. Arlington Park Race Track. World's Richest Thoroughbred race with a guarantee purse of $1,000,000. This event is televised on national TV.

DEADLINES ANNOUNCED FOR IAPD,
IPRA AWARDS PROGRAMS

The deadline for submission of nominations for IAPD awards to be given out at the Annual Conference is August 1. Deadline for IPRA awards nominations is September 1. The respective committees in charge have announced that no nominations will be accepted that are postmarked later than the deadline dates.

Both the IAPD and the IPRA give awards to individuals and agencies for outstanding achievements or service.

Award nomination forms and rules may be obtained by contacting the IAPD or IPRA.
