1984 Annual Legislative Conference

More than 150 members attended the Illinois Association of Park District's Sixth Annual Legislative Conference in Springfield on May 2.

Guest speakers during the day-long conference included Attorney General Neil Hartigan, Secretary of State Jim Edgar and legislative leaders from both political parties.

Michael Woelffer, director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, and David Kenney, director of the Illinois Department of Conservation, also addressed the group on strategies for the future and the impact of tourism in Illinois.

One of the key issues discussed at the Springfield meeting was collective bargaining and its significance to Illinois park and recreation personnel managers.

Members were urged to meet with their legislators and forge relationships with other legislators. Up-to-date information on the Association's Legislative Advocacy Program and pending legislation which would affect park, forest preserve and conservation districts was presented.
