The September/October issue of IPR features a special section on the 1984 fall conference. It's well worth your while to read through the agenda and share it with others in your district. Kay Forest has included a convention preview story on page 9.

We've had a number of interesting features submitted by members from around the State. A Springfield hiking expert talks about some of the basic rules of trail marking. Trails which are well and consistently marked can be a big drawing card to citizens wanting to visit park areas and forest preserves. Another feature tells the story of Al Kamm, the "father" of Illinois' Senior Olympics. Dr. Kamm, who's now 81, would put many of us younger folks to shame when you consider his energy and enthusiasm for fitness.

This issue also includes an article reprinted from the Harrisburg Daily Register telling "What Kids Like About Their Parks." I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did. In a more serious vein, we have an in-depth look at the new "Access to Records Law," with an analysis from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).

Let me just add a note of sincere thanks to all of our readers who have returned their survey sheets. It helps us get an idea of how we can serve you better. The response to our request for written material and story ideas has also been tremendous. We're happy to hear from you and we'll certainly make every effort to use the ideas and stories you've sent. You know better than anyone else what interests park and recreation enthusiasts.

The cover photo on this months magazine is of Lake Harriett in Woodridge, Illinois. It was taken by Jim Gonyo of Woodridge and displayed at the Woodridge Park District's Showcase on the Lake festivities. The photo won first place in the Park District's photography contest.
