LEGAL SYMPOSIUM

A one-day education program for park, forest preserve and conservation agency attorneys, chief administrators and board members will be held October 10 in the Chicago area. It will cover issues confronting legal counsels for park districts and other local governmental units. Contact the IAPD at (217) 523-4554 for information.

PARK MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE

Once again the IPRA Park Section is sponsoring the Park Management Institute at Allerton Park on October 8-10. It is designed to provide in-depth management training for all personnel within the park operations department. This year the institute, "Developing Yourself and Others," will include the following topics and speakers:

"Persuasive Supervision and Management for Action,"
by Michael Brandwein;

"Interviewing and Evaluation,"
by Michael Brandwein;

"Developing Achievement Potential,"
by Jerry Olson;

"Organizing Yourself and Others,"
by Bernie Young.

The cost for this program is $150 for members, $160 for non-members. The fee includes tuition, meals and lodging. Registration forms are available through the IPRA office.

NRPA CONGRESS

The National Recreation and Park Association Conference will be held October 21-24 in Orlando, Florida. The program will be geared for board members and all professionals in related fields. For further information contact the NRPA Great Lakes regional office at (312) 359-2050.

PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP

The IAPD pre-conference workshop for small park districts will be held November 15 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont. It is designed for board members of small districts. Call the IAPD for information.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE

November 15-18 are the dates of the Illinois Park Recreation Conference. Educational sessions on park maintenance, recreation, programming and related subjects will be held. See the special conference preview in this issue.

IN-HOUSE COMPUTER FOR IPRA

The IPRA Board approved the purchase of a personal computer for membership record keeping and accounting. The office currently uses a service bureau for these services. The computer will be implemented in two stages. The first will include membership. The second stage will incorporate the financial record keeping and accounting. It is expected that this process will begin in late fall and take several months to implement. Members will be asked to update their current membership data when they pay their dues. Please bear with us in this process.

IPRA SECTIONS

IPRA created the sections to provide service to members in their own special interest areas. Volunteers are needed to serve on section committees. If you are interested in becoming involved in your area, contact one of the directors-elect who will assume leadership of the sections in November.
