Selected State Reports

NOTE: Due to a typographical error in the January issue of the magazine, a new newsletter from the State Water Survey was listed as "Waste Survey Currents" instead of "Water Survey Currents." To those who ordered the newsletter thinking it dealt only with hazardous waste, our apologies. To those readers who would like general information about what the State Water Survey does (which includes a concern with hazardous waste), we encourage you to contact the agency directly at 2204 Griffith Dr., Champaign 61820.

Other Reports

■ Child Support Enforcement in Illinois, Center for Legal Studies, Sangamon State University, Springfield 62708 (1985), 24pp. $1.

Under Illinois law neither the right to collect child support nor the obligation to pay it are automatic. This booklet will help the custodial parent understand the steps that are necessary to obtain support; it also provides information that paying parents must know concerning their child support obligation.

■ Illinois Statecraft, Oral History Services, Brookens 377, Sangamon State University, Springfield 62708.

About five years ago this column listed the first several volumes in a series of memoirs published by the Oral History Office at SSU. Many additional volumes have appeared since then, and those involved deserve renewed recognition for this good effort. Each memoir begins with an exploration of the individual's family and early life — searching for clues that might explain later civic involvement — and then delves more deeply into the public life and its import to the state. The interviewers are well prepared for their task, and the result makes for lively and informative reading. The oral histories are divided into three series. The General Assembly Series contains 12 published volumes, five are forthcoming, and there is a cumulative index for 1980-84; all are free, but there is a shipping and handling charge of $1.50 per volume. The Executive Branch Series has 10 titles, and the General Series six; these range in price from $3 to $6. A complete list is available from the Oral History Services Office.

Items listed under State Documents have been received by the Documents Unit, Illinois State Library, Springfield, and are usually available from public libraries in the state through interlibrary loan.
