STREET SEAT HAS NOVEL DESIGN

For bus stops, playgrounds, riverbanks, patios and the like a Dutch company is introducing the Catbird Seat, a winner of several international design awards. Maintenance-free, virtually indestructible and esthetic in appearance, the Catbird is shaped from a single length of steel pipe to produce one of four versions: plain seat, armrest left or right and with stanchion and bracket for holding a bus-stop sign.

Leaning is a human habit and the Catbird Seat invites a combination of leaning and sitting. Seat height is such that approximately 40 percent of average body weight is supported by the feet and 60 percent by the pelvis. This will vary with the height of the person, but the distribution of body support provides comfort even for the average adolescent. Designed for permanent installation, it is normally set in concrete.

Sturdy, comfortable and economical to produce or install, the Catbird does not require a large manufacturing investment. Exaco USA Ltd. is now seeking licensees for its manufacture in North America.
