The American Coaching Effectiveness Program (ACEP) is planning a Level 1 Leadership Training Seminar in Champaign on June 12 and 13.

The seminar will provide an opportunity for physical educators, recreation professionals and youth sport leaders to discuss issues of importance to sports programs with top youth sports authorities. Participants will also learn how to present the ACEP coaching program to their own coaches and be given the opportunity to participate in sessions from the ACEP Level 1 coaches' clinic.

The $150 registration fee includes the ACEP Instructor Guide, Coaching Young Adults text, training session, coffee breaks and lunch, and the ACEP study guide, seminar packet and instructor certificate.

Enrollment is limited. Additional information and registration forms are available from the ACEP National Office, P.O. Box 5076, Champaign, IL 61820. Phone (217) 351-5076.

The BLACKBERRY HISTORICAL FARM VILLAGE, an outdoor education facility at the Fox Valley Park District in Aurora, will soon become the host for a solar energy research and development project.

The project is sponsored by the Illinois Department of Energy and Natural Resources (ENR), Commonwealth Edison Company and Illinois State University (ISU). The facility will consist of a building with a roof mostly covered with solar cells that will produce 6 kw of electricity, which is enough to provide all the power an average house would need while the sun is shining.

The system will be interconnected with existing Commonwealth Edison grid. Any excess power generated by the system's photovoltaic cells while the sun is shining will be sold to the utility. When the system is not operating, or the sun is not shining sufficiently, power is then purchased from the utility.
