Ill. Women In Government Conference
Set For March 4-6 In Springfield

Women throughout Illinois who are serving in elected or appointed public office or who are interested in doing so, will be meeting in Springfield March 4-6, 1987. This will be the Fourth Annual Illinois Women in Government Conference to be held at the Executive Mansion and State Capitol facilities.

"This will be the best conference we have had," comments Linda Hawker, Conference Chair. "It will commence on Wednesday evening, March 4 with a candlelight reception at the Old State Capitol in Springfield. Sessions will be held on both Thursday, March 5 and Friday, March 6 addressing issues of importance to women such as day care; funding women's campaigns; media skills and career development as well as the Illinois economy. Key speakers will include women elected officials and career and personal development consultants. Personalized media skills consultations will be available to registrants."

The first Illinois Women in Government Conference was held four years ago in Springfield in cooperation with Sangamon State University, Rutgers University Eagleton Institute of Politics and the Office of the President of the Illinois Senate. Out of the first conference grew the organization, Illinois Women in Government, which, along with the Universities and Senate President Philip Rock has continued to sponsor the subsequent conferences.

Membership in the non-partisan organization is open to all individuals interested in encouraging qualified women to seek elective and appointive office. Sangamon County Clerk, Maralee Lindley, IWIG President, states, "We welcome into active participation all persons interested in serving in government or supporting those who are willing to do so. We expect registrations for the conference by persons from all areas of Illinois and involved in all areas of government. It is going to be a very exciting event."

Registration fees will be $50.00, which will include all sessions, the candlelight reception at the Old State Capitol, dinner in the Capitol Rotunda and lunch on both days. Persons interested in attending may obtain registration forms by phoning (217) 782-3905. •
