Can spring be far behind?

Golfers match their driving and putting skills against the winter elements.

Approximately 400 avid golfers participated in the Crystal Lake Park District's 18th Chili Open Golf Classic in January.

The park district created two "championship" nine-hole par 32 courses on the frozen surface of Crystal Lake. It also provided the painted golf balls, side games and prizes ranging from golf bags to putters. Homemade chili was available for both participants and spectators.

Crystal Lake becomes the site of intense golf competition during the Doc Haznow Chili Open.

"Caddies" with special agility are required for this winter golf tournament.

Refreshments are the order of business on the 19th hole.
