ENGINEERING DIRECTOR The City of Elgin, Illinois (pop. 69,600), located thirty-seven miles northwest of Chicago, operates under the Council/Manager form of Government, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Engineering Director. The Engineering Director will manage the Engineering Division (3 engineers and 8 technical staff), and report to the Public Works Director. The Division is responsible for planning, design and implementation of capital improvements, subdivision plan review, inspection of new additions to the infrastructure and redesign and construction of existing infrastructure. A degree in civil engineering is required of all candidates at the time of appointment, as well as registration in the State of Illinois as a professional engineer within one year of appointment. Candidates should have a broad experience in municipal engineering with at least three years of supervisory responsibilities. Management skills should include: proven leadership; problem solving ability; human resource direction; proficiency in communications; budget development; implementation of innovative design and construction approaches.
