Municipal Financial Management The Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs' Office of Local Government Management Services will be conducting a series of workshops on municipal financial management during February and March. The workshop agenda has been designed to meet the particular interests of the smaller cities and villages in the state. The topics to be covered include property taxes and local revenue sources, requirements of preparing the appropriation ordinance, preparing a budget, the tax levy ordinance, meeting the requirements of the Truth-in-Taxation Act, and financing public works projects. To minimize travel time and to provide alternative choices for public officials, seventeen workshop sessions have been scheduled around the state over a three week period. Morning, evening and afternoon sessions are available to accommodate part-time and full-time officials. There is no charge to attend any of the workshops; however, you MUST register in advance to insure that sufficient seating and workshop materials are available. To register, please call the toll-free telephone number 1-800-562-4688 (1-800-LOC-GOVT) anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Space is limited.
