ELECTION CALENDAR


The following election calendar is for the submission of referenda and the creation of new park, forest preserve, and conservation districts for the general primary which will take place on Tuesday, March 20, 1990, and the general election, which will take place on Tuesday, November 6, 1990.

ELECTION CALENDAR 1990

Tuesday, January 2

Last day for filing of petitions (must contain original sheets signed by voters & circulators) for the submission of questions of public policy (local) for referenda.

Monday, January 8

Last day to file objections to petitions for the submission of public policy questions to referenda.

Tuesday, January 16

Last day for local governing boards to adopt a resolution or ordinance to allow questions of public policy as authorized by law to appear on the ballot. (Chap. 46, Sec. 28-2)

Thursday, January 18

Last day for the circuit court clerk and the local election official to certify any questions of public policy to the election authority having jurisdiction over the political subdivision. (Chap. 46, Sec. 28-5)

Wednesday, January 24

Last day for the county clerk to certify to the board of election commissioners any referenda to be submitted to the voters in its jurisdiction. (Chap. 46, Sec. 28-5)

Sunday, February 18

First day for the election authority to publish a notice of any question of public policy to be voted upon within its jurisdiction. (Chap. 46, Sec. 12-5)

Monday, February 26

First day for local election officials to conduct in-person absentee voting. (Chap. 46, Sec. 19-2.1)

Saturday, March 10

Last day for the election authority to publish a notice of any question of public policy to be voted upon within its jurisdiction. (Chap. 46, Sec. 12-5)

Thursday, March 15

Last day for the election authority to receive application by mail from any registered voter presently within the confines of the United States, who expects to be absent from his county of residence on election day and the last day for the election authority to mail such ballot. (Chap. 46, Sec. 19-2)

Monday, March 19

Last day for any registered voter presently within the confines of the United States, who expects to be absent from his county of residence on election day, to make application in person to the election authority, or municipal, township or road district clerk who is authorized to conduct absentee voting. (Chap. 46, Sec. 19-2)

Tuesday, March 20

GENERAL PRIMARY ELECTION

Thursday, June 21

First day notice of intention to file a petition to create a political subdivision, whose officers are to be elected rather than appointed, may be published in a newspaper within the proposed political subdivision, or if none, in a newspaper of general circulation within the proposed territory. (Chap. 46, Sec. 28-2)

Friday, July 20

Last day to file a petition to create a political subdivision with the appropriate officer or board. (Chap. 46, Sec. 28-2)

NOTE: If initial officers are to be elected at the election for creation of a new unit of government, candidates for such offices shall file nomination papers 78 to 71 days before such election.

Saturday, July 21

Last day for filing a Statement of Economic interests with the county clerk or the Secretary of State as required by the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act. The receipt must be filed on, or before this date, with the State Board of Elections or the county clerk who received the nomination papers. (Chap. 46, Sec. 10-5; Chap. 127, Sec. 604A)

Monday, August 13

Last day for an individual who has filed for 2 or more incompatible offices to withdraw from all but one of the offices (with whichever election authority the nomination papers were originally filed). (Chap. 46, Sec. 10-7)

Monday, August 13

Last day for filing objections to the nomination papers of all candidates in the office of the State Board of Elections or the county clerk (with whichever election authority the nomination papers were originally filed). (Chap. 46, Sec. 10-8)

Wednesday, August 15

Last day lottery shall be conducted by the State Board of Elections or the county clerk when 2 or more petitions are received simultaneously for the same office by more than one independent candidate, as of the opening hour of the filing period, July 30, 1990. (Chap. 46, Sec. 10-6.2).

Monday, August 20

Last day for filing petitions for referenda for the submission of questions of public policy (local).

Monday, August 27

Last day to file objections to petitions for referenda for the submission of questions of public policy (local).

Friday, August 31

Last day for nonpartisan candidates to withdraw their candidacy in the office of the State Board of Elections or county clerk (with whichever election authority the nomination papers were originally filed). (Chap. 46, Sec. 10-7)

Newly elected members of the General Assembly shall convene and organize their respective chambers. (Ill. Const., Art. IV, Secs. 5,6(b))
