State Documents

Historical and Cultural Agencies and Museums in Illinois 1991-1992, Congress of Illinois Historical Societies and Museums, Old State Capitol, Springfield 62701 (August 1991), 84pp.

Illinois has a wide array of museums, historic sites, and nature and science centers. This directory provides a useful guide to the rich cultural heritage preserved by these institutions. In addition to a general index and a county index, the directory contains individual listings by town. Each listing includes the address and telephone number of the institution, when it is open, the collecting or program emphasis, and the name of a contact person.

Other Reports

Hospital and Health Care Governance: Rural Illinois, Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs, Western Illinois University, Macomb 61455 (August 1991), 68pp.

This report examines the role of rural hospital governing boards, especially the ways in which boards are adapting to the tremendous changes taking place in the health care arena. It is based on responses from governing board members of eight rural hospitals to a questionnaire, which covered nine areas of concern: strategic planning, fiscal oversight, quality assurance, hospital management and medical staff relations, board operation, board composition, board functions, hospital information and CEO information.

Research Highlights 1991-1992, Argonne National Laboratory, 9700 S. Cass, Argonne 60439,56pp.

The highlights presented in this report are divided into six categories: engineering research; advanced photon source; energy, environmental and biological research; physical research; technology transfer; and education. Specific projects are described in each. For instance, under engineering research the report includes a description of an integral fast reactor, which is a prototype of an advanced nuclear reactor that can produce electricity in a safe, economical and environmentally responsible fashion. Each description is accompanied by interesting photos and illustrative drawings. The authors of the text have also clearly made an effort to make the descriptions understandable to an interested lay audience.
