COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

The City of Salem, Illinois (population 7,470), located in South Central Illinois on U.S. Route 50 and Interstate 57, is seeking a Community Development Director. The selected candidate will report directly to the City Manager. The position requires four years of progressively responsible community and economic development experience. The Community Development Director is responsible for developing community and economic development programs, acting as staff support for the Planning Commission, and Zoning and Code Administration. Requires Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Public Administration, Planning or a related field. Strong communication, organization and grantsmanship skills essential. City residence is required within nine months after date of hire. Salary range $25,000-S30,000 together with liberal fringe benefits.

CHIEF OF POLICE

The City of Countryside (population 5,961) is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police. Excellent salary and benefit package. The Countryside Police Department has 22 full-time officers, 6 civilian personnel, and an annual budget of $1.9 million. Candidates should possess the following qualifications: Four-year degree in police or public administration and/or management; Graduation from the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University Command and Staff School, the Southern Police Institute Command School, or comparable institution is preferred; Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible municipal law enforcement experience, including at least three years in a supervisory or command capacity; Strong organizational, administrative, and leadership skills; Knowledgeable of and committed to progressive principles of policing and police administration; Excellent verbal/written communications and human relations skills; Experience in planning, budgeting, performance evaluation, and goal setting; An active interest in community affairs and activities. The Chief of Police is required to live in the City within one year of appointment. It is anticipated that the selected person will be available to report for duty on or about January 15, 1993. Finalists will be required to participate in an assessment center and will be subjected to a thorough background investigation and medical and psychological evaluations. DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS

POLICE CHIEF

Under the general administrative direction of the Village Manager/Village Council, the Police Chief is responsible for the supervision and administration of 36 full-time employees and a $3.1 million budget. The Village of Winnetka has a traditional history of leadership stability. The current Chief is retiring after 16 years in the position. A bachelor's degree and significant police administration/command experience in law enforcement is required. VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR

The Village of Bannockburn is establishing a new position for a Village Administrator. Preferred qualifications are a masters degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, or related field, or equivalent experience, and five years of experience as a City Manager or Assistant City Manager in a full-service municipal organization. Duties include managing all aspects of business for a small, historic, service-oriented community. Since this is a new position, it is expected that the administrator's duties will evolve over time.
