Sen. Richard F. Kelly named Legislator of the Year by South
Suburban Parks and Recreation Professional Association

The South Suburban Parks and Recreation Professional Association (SSPRPA) named Illinois Senator Richard F. Kelly (D-Oak Forest) its Legislator of the Year. The award was presented during SSPRPA's 12th Annual Community Leader Banquet held in March.

"Senator Kelly has always been a very strong supporter of parks and recreation, and he knows the value parks make to a community," said John Curran of the Alsip Park District. "He takes the time to know what is going on in the communities. He puts politics aside and does what is best for the communities."

Kelly, who has served in the State Legislature for 19 years, said he was honored to receive the award.

"There is no doubt that the quality of life in the south suburban area is in large part affected by its parks," said Kelly. "In Springfield, I have worked hard to ensure that park and recreation districts do not have to face legislation which would hinder their performance or hurt the people they serve."

The South Suburban Parks and Recreation Professional Association is made up of 63 park districts and recreation departments, and more than 300 individual members. Sue Micklevitz of the Romeoville Recreation Department is president of SSPRPA.
