'Toilet wars' along
the Senate corridor

Female state senators and staff members are engaged in what have come to be known as "toilet wars" with some male newcomers to the upper chamber. It seems that some freshman senators never learned proper bathroom etiquette, which calls for a man to lower a toilet seat after completing his bathroom business. Ignoring that policy may play fine in their bathrooms back home, but not in the unisex lavatories in the Senate corridor. The worst offender apparently is a young, newly elected Republican from a certain northern Chicago suburb; maybe this mention of the unmentionable will convince him to mend his water closet ways. *
