Record Setting Attendance at
IAPD's 15th Annual Legislative Conference

The Fifteenth Annual Legislative Conference of the Illinois Association of Park Districts was held in Springfield on April 28th. A record number of 270 participants were in attendance.

Speakers for the event included James "Pate" Philip, Illinois Senate President; Lee Daniels, Minority Leader of the Illinois House of Representatives; Emil Jones, Minority Leader of the Illinois Senate; Terry Steczo, Assistant Majority Leader of the Illinois House of Represenatives; Mary Gade, Director of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency; and Brent Manning, Director of the Illinois Department of Conservation. A session on "How an Exemption for Limited Tax Bonds and a Statewide Tax Cap Will Affect Your District" was also presented.

Immediately following the conference, participants had the opportunity to meet with their legislators at the State Capitol. Later that evening, IAPD hosted a reception honoring all members of the 88th General Assembly.

Park Setting Created
at State Capitol

In conjunction with the Legislative Conference, the IAPD/IPRA Joint Legislative Committee again created a park-like setting on the second floor of the State Capitol

The south corridor was filled with flowering plants, shrubbery and photographs depicting the many activities provided by park districts.

Packages were distributed to legislators containing facts and information on Illinois park and forest preserve districts and legislative objectives for 1993.

The associations express their gratitude to Terry Pohlman of the Northwest Special Recreation Association, Board President Leslie Sgro and Inez Berg of the Springfield Park District, the Decatur Park District, and all of the park districts and volunteers who contributed to the success of the event.
