DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE

The Village of Wheeling, Illinois (population 30,000), a progressive community in northwest suburban Chicago, is seeking a dynamic individual to assume the duties of Deputy Chief of Police, Field Services Division of the Police Department. This sworn, exempt rank will report directly to the Chief of Police. The Police Department, which is accredited, is currently authorized one Chief, two Deputy Chiefs, two Commanders, eight sergeants, 40 sworn officers, and 24 non-sworn support staff, and has a current budget in excess of 4.2 million. Responsibilities involve the direct supervision of the patrol, traffic and investigative units. Requirements include: Baccalaureate degree in police science/administration, criminal justice, or related field is preferred. Experience and formal police training (FBI, SPI) may be accepted in lieu thereof. A minimum of eight years in law enforcement, including proven supervisory, administrative or management experience is required. Additional requirements are ability to deal courteously, but firmly with the general public in a culturally diverse community; self-motivated; personnel oriented and strong communication skills. Salary range: $60,000 - $65,058 DOQ plus excellent benefit package.
