Preface

An effort is made to include at least one article in each issue of Illinois Libraries on technology and libraries. Previous issues have included world literature in electronic formats, patron-initiated interlibrary loan using the Lincoln Trail Libraries System automated catalog, and the role of public library trustees with the information superhighway. This Illinois Libraries issue includes Toby Gibson's overview of the World Wide Web. The article is very effective in providing an overview of the terminology associated with the Internet's World Wide Web and how we can use the Web's information resources in our relentless pursuit of information.

Your contributions are welcomed on how you use technology in your workplace as well as other ways you enhance library service. Libraries have changed dramatically in the last twenty years with the advent of computerization yet many aspects of our jobs remain constant such as the significance of customer service and public relations.

Illinois Libraries is a conduit for articles on topics to help the Illinois library community learn new ideas and benefit from the expertise and experience of others. Each and every one of you is a potential author for Illinois Libraries, so please contact me with your ideas and suggestions.
