The Palatine police force has been named one of the best suburban police forces in the country by Good Housekeeping magazine. Good Housekeeping launched a year-long search for the best departments in the suburbs in response to America's growing concern with crime. The November issue of the magazine spotlights how the best forces operate and profiles individual officers that make them successful.

IML President Frank Clinton, Mayor of Paris, has been appointed to the Nominating Committee of the National League of Cities by NLC President Greg Lashutka. The Nominating Committee is responsible for recommending a slate of officers and board members to lead the National League of Cities in 1997.

Congratulations to Granite City on the occasion of its 100th anniversary this year.

Marianne Shank, Executive Director of the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association, has been named to the governing board of the new national GFOA Council on Certification.

The Illinois Municipal League mourns the loss of William B. Sands, long-time Director of Public Works for the City of Decatur. Mr. Sands was the city's first public works director and recently served as acting city manager. He also served for many years on the Municipal League's Public Works Committee.
