Caring about health care

Health care reform is at the top of the national agenda, and although Illinoisans are critical of the national health care system, they also worry about how possible changes may affect them.

That is one conclusion of the 1993 Illinois Policy Survey, conducted in October by the Center for Governmental Studies and Public Opinion Lab at Northern Illinois University. The charts on this page show breakdowns to various questions that researchers asked 800 adult respondents.

Nearly three-quarters of the respondents rated their own health care as good or excellent, though just a third of them thought health care in general in Illinois merited such a judgment. And 80 percent said the national health care system needed fundamental change or a complete overhaul.

The survey also found that 61 percent believe reforms will likely bring access to health insurance for all Americans.
