Nicknamed "cathedral" because of the grove of mature oak trees surrounding it, hole number five is the longest par 4 (427 yards) on Zion's Shepherd's Crook Golf Course, designed by Keith Foster in 1999. Rich Walker, superintendent of special facilities for the Zion Park District, says "the green has a wide landing area but you need to be on the left-hand side of the fairway otherwise the trees will block access to the green." The cut logs have a purpose here and throughout the course. According to Walker, they keep people on the cart paths in a more natural way than ropes typically used at other courses.
