State Documents

Available Disposal Capacity for Solid Waste in Illinois, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, 2200 Churchill Road, Springfield 62794-9276 (October 1991), 108pp.

In 1987 Illinois had 146 active landfills; currently it has 110, and by 1993 only 66 are expected to remain in operation. Moreover, even though the amount of waste generated in-state has declined, the waste volume imported from other states has increased. Given all of this, it is estimated that Illinois has between eight and 10 years of remaining landfill capacity if no further capacity is added. This fifth annual report on the remaining landfill capacity in the state provides data on volumes of waste accepted at landfills in each county as well as the reported remaining landfill capacity by county and region.

Crime in Illinois: 1990, Illinois State Police, Bureau of Identification, 726 S. College, P.O. Box 3677, Springfield 62708 (September 1991), 241pp.

This is the 19th year that the Illinois State Police has compiled and published annual crime statistics for the state. It is part of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, which requires law enforcement agencies throughout the state to submit data to the state police. After a brief introduction, in which several programs and terms are explained and defined, the report is divided into six major sections: crime trends (with subsections on violent crimes and property crimes), offense and clearance data, adult and juvenile arrest data, crime index/crime rate data, metropolitan statistical areas, and law enforcement officer and agency information.
