A Note From The Editor

This is my third issue of Illinois Parks & Recreation magazine as editor and I think it is by far, the best yet. I only hope this trend continues. And, it will as long as top-notch articles continue to flow into the IAPD office.

Anyone can write an article. If you have an idea about an article for your magazine, but you're not sure how to approach the subject, or if you're just having a hard time writing the first paragraph, give me a call and we'll discuss your ideas.

Many times, park and recreation professionals work hard planning programs or expansions to their districts, and forget about public relations. Getting the word out is the best way to promote your programs and your districts. You have to let the citizens (your customers) know what you are doing for them.

If you initiate a new program, write about it and let your collegues know how you did. The best way to get the word out to other professionals in the recreation field is to have your articles published in Illinois Parks & Recreation magazine.

If you are interested in media relations, I am putting together a presentation that will be ready to "go on the road" soon. I will make a presentation to the IPRA Section Meeting Oct. 3. IAPD will also have regional workshops on the subject. If you are interested in hosting a regional workshop, please contact us. In no time you'll be getting the word out and putting your district in a positive light. The best part is that it's simple to do and doesn't take a lot of time.

Give us a call, or write. We're always glad to hear from you. Until next time, happy reading!

On The Cover

Kim Harris of Carbondale provided us with this wonderful picture of a baby raccoon taken at Heron Pond Nature Preserve in Johnson County. (He used a Minolta X-700 camera, Tamron 300mm lens with Kodachrome 200 film.)
