Dear Readers,
This month we're introducing a new look for Illinois Issues and a new regular column by Illinois pollsters called "The Pulse." We have made changes in the past, and after taking a long, hard look at our first 12 years of publishing, we've made more. Feature articles will be shorter as they were in the early years. A bit of whimsey has been added to "State Stix" by Margaret Knoepfle. Both people and agencies will be highlighted in "Names." Charles J. Abbott is untied from the monthly grind of a "Washington" column and will write feature articles from Washington. Anna J. Merritt in "State Reports" now gives you "mini" critiques of the titles she selects each month.

Please tell us what you think of our changes. And have a Happy New Year.          The Staff
