Designed and managed for nature preservation, the Lake County Forest Preserves' ThunderHawk Golf Club was recognized by Golf Digest for "Environmental Leadership" during its first season in 1999. This 18-hole public championship course—designed by legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr.—features 243 acres of rolling terrain including more than 32 acres of restored wetlands, 74 acres of new and transplanted woodlands and 57 acres of reintroduced native prairie.
