The Olympia Fields Park District held its annual Fall Family Celebration as scheduled on September 16, five days after the events of September 11. About 500 residents gathered in Bicentennial Park for free food, fun activities and to regain a sense of community unity. Waving American flags supplied by the park district, they sang "God Bless America," followed by a period of silence. According to Mary Gregoire, director of parks and recreation: "People were thrilled that we did something positive, so they could get out and feel good about themselves."
