2005 is almost history and the Illinois State Historical Society has done its part to make it a little more memorable.

But the year won't end until the 2005 Illinois History Symposium concludes on Statehood Day, December 3. This year's symposium, "Religion and Society," will be held at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Springfield and is co-hosted by Illinois College, the state's oldest institution of higher learning. Admission is by donation this year, but we are encouraging everyone who plans to attend to register in advance to help us prepare. Please use the registration form in this issue (or a copy).

Our symposium features more than 22 sessions, as well as tours of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, Dana-Thomas House, Old State Capitol, and Illinois State Military Museum. Our symposium banquet will be held at the Illinois Governors Mansion on Thursday evening, December 1, and will feature a keynote address by Father George Lane, director of Loyola University Press, who will discuss the restoration of Holy Family Church, the oldest parish in Chicago. Please join us for a remarkable weekend of Prairie State History in Springfield.

To help you plan your next year with the Society we've included our 2006 Illinois Visions Calendar. Pick a date—any date—and make history with your Illinois State Historical Society.
